The City of McFarland is committed to providing timely, accurate, and transparent information to the public and the media.

For all media inquiries, including interview requests, press information, and statements related to the City of McFarland or the McFarland Police Department, media representatives are kindly asked to contact the City’s Communications Division within the Community Development Department.

The Communications Division serves as the City’s central point of contact for media inquiries. The Public Information Officer coordinates media requests, facilitates communication with the appropriate City department or official, and helps ensure responses are accurate, timely, and consistent with City messaging. While all media inquiries should be directed through the Communications Division, official statements on behalf of the City may be issued by the Mayor, City Manager, Police Chief, or other authorized City representative, depending on the nature of the matter.

Responsibilities of the Public Information Officer

The Public Information Officer helps support clear, coordinated communication between the City and the public by:

• Serving as the initial point of contact for media inquiries
• Coordinating interview requests, press inquiries, and information requests with the appropriate City department or official
• Assisting with the preparation and distribution of press materials, public information, and media responses
• Helping ensure communication is timely, accurate, and consistent across City departments
• Supporting media coordination for City services, events, emergencies, and public safety-related communications
• Working with City leadership and department representatives to facilitate official responses when appropriate
