How to Participate in City Council Meetings

The City of McFarland welcomes public participation during City Council meetings.

Members of the public may attend meetings in person or participate virtually through Zoom for public comment.

The City strongly recommends that members of the public follow the meeting through the City of McFarland’s official Facebook Live stream.

The Zoom platform is intended specifically for members of the public who wish to provide public comment during the meeting.

Before the Meeting

Members of the public who plan to provide comments through Zoom are encouraged to complete the City Council Public Comment Request Form before the meeting.

Completing the form in advance will help City staff identify speakers and organize public comments during the meeting. After submitting the form, you will receive the Zoom meeting link and participation information for the requested City Council meeting.

Join Zoom for Public Comment

Please note that Zoom is intended for public comment participation. Members of the public who only wish to watch the meeting are strongly encouraged to follow the City’s Facebook Live stream.

When joining Zoom:

• Enter your name so City staff can identify you.

• All participants will be muted upon entering the meeting.

• Please remain attentive during the meeting if you plan to provide public comment.

How to Provide Public Comment

When the designated public comment period or applicable agenda item begins:

  1. Wait to be recognized by the Presiding Officer.
  2. When recognized, you will receive a notification allowing you to unmute your microphone.
  3. Please unmute promptly and provide your comments.

Speakers are generally limited to two (2) minutes per person unless otherwise directed by the Presiding Officer.

Important Public Comment Information

Please note:

• The meeting is recorded and broadcast live.

• Public comments submitted through the Zoom chat will not be read into the record or considered public testimony.

• All comments should be respectful and courteous.

• Disruptive behavior may result in removal from the meeting in accordance with applicable law and the City’s Procedural Rules.

• If a telephone or internet disruption affects remote participation, the City will proceed in accordance with the City’s Technology Disruption Policy and applicable provisions of the Brown Act.
