Notice of Adopted Ordinance No. 3-2026
The City of McFarland has adopted Ordinance No. 3-2026, which adds new rules to the McFarland Municipal Code regarding water theft, unauthorized water use, and unauthorized connections to fire hydrants.
This ordinance helps protect the City’s water system by prohibiting activities such as:
- Tampering with water meters or water service connections
- Using City water without authorization
- Reconnecting water service after it has been lawfully disconnected
- Using fire hydrants without City authorization or a valid permit
Fire hydrants connected to the City’s water system may only be used by the City, the Kern County Fire Department, or individuals who have been properly authorized or permitted by the City.
Violations may result in administrative citations, fines, and charges for the estimated cost of water used. The ordinance is intended to help prevent water loss, protect public infrastructure, and support the reliability of the City’s water system.
The ordinance will take effect 30 days after adoption, in accordance with state law.
